About Us
In 1997, a small multi-ethnic group of inter-denominational Christians formed a non-profit tax-exempt organization in the Hemingway, SC area called Caring and Sharing. Their goal was to help those less fortunate than themselves. The first year they helped 13 families and have grown each year.
In 2005, Caring
and Sharing was awarded the "ANGEL" award. This 2005 ANGEL award was
presented to Caring and Sharing for exceptional compliance with the solicitation
of Charitable Funds Act of South Carolina. In 2005 Caring and Sharing gave 92.1%
of received funds to needy families. Caring and Sharing was ranked 4th out of
more that 6,000 charitable organizations that has the right to solicit funds for charities.
And, in 2006, Caring and Sharing was able to help approximately 4,000 families.
According to Carl Harmon, State Chairman for Caring and Sharing, the growth of
the group has been phenomenal. The organization now covers an area of a 30-mile radius
of Hemingway, SC. A new chapter has been established in Lake City, South Carolina.
Our
original chapter serves all of Williamsburg and Georgetown counties and a part
of Horry county.
The group's main focus is to help the elderly people who are trying to live off of
$200-$750 a month. "They are out there by the thousands," Carl
said. He also added that the group have come across residents who are trying the
best just to live on $127 a month.
Caring and Sharing help the needy families pay for light bills, medicine, and
disperses food from a small food bank. Mr. Harmon said, "The first time a
family is helped, a Bible is handed out with the food."
